1. Key Rules & Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, confirm that your travel plan satisfies the Government of India’s medical travel requirements:
- Specialised Medical Treatments: The visa is designated for patients seeking care at recognised, specialised hospitals or treatment centers in India (e.g., joint replacement, organ transplant, gene therapy, neurosurgery).
- Hospital Invitation Letter is Mandatory: You must have an official letter written on the letterhead of an accredited Indian hospital stating your name, passport details, diagnosis, and recommended treatment plan.
- Medical Attendant Allowance: Up to two (2) blood relatives or caregivers can travel with the patient under a separate Medical Attendant Visa (linked directly to the main patient’s visa application).
- Extension Rights: If your treatment requires extra recovery time beyond your initial visa validity, the visa can be extended locally in India through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) based on a certified hospital report.
2. Document Checklist
Gather these documents in clean, high-resolution digital format (PDF for text, JPEG for photos) before starting your online application:
A. Patient Documents

- Passport Photo: Recent square-shaped photo (2x2 inch) against a plain white background. (JPEG format for online application)
